The number of armed conflicts has reached a historic high, according to the Uppsala Conflict Data Program which is considered the world's leader in gathering such data. Their charts show a sharp increase in state and non-state conflicts as well as one-sided violence during the last fifteen years.

At a local manifestation PQI's secretary questioned the need to uphold Western hegemony, which is often done with violent means under the guise of protecting democracy. He pointed to the undeniable human cost and increasing risk to ourselves.
Bulletin of Atomic Scientists currently has its Doomsday Clock set to 89 seconds to midnight, the most alarming since the clock's inception in 1947. Existential dangers from nuclear weapons, climate change, pandemics and out-of-control technology must be met with international cooperation, they argue.
